Content Duplication

Internal content duplication can effect your overall site and page rank negatively. Content duplication can appear in 3 ways; a) Page elements b) the same content duplicated (i.e. on a ecommerce site) and c) little fresh copy, copy is duplicated many times over.

Many sites use the same title tag and the same meta description for each page,  title tags should all be uniquely different. Your site may have a blog, product or press release information throughout. Content may be on several pages and on the sidebar, if these pages have very little real ‘new’ content the page may not rank with the web crawlers. Repeated content may dilute the differentiation between pages.

Solutions to too much of the same content includes: 1) Add fresh updated content with a blof or news information 2) Use distinctive details, such as the brand and model name and number, or color, for a product that had little difference other than color. If the only distinction between three pages is “red,” “silver,” and “black,” it may be best to combine this on one page. 3) Add some ‘How to Tips’ on how to use the product or service with external links.

Testing your server traffic logs or analytics to really understand the best choice to make. We now have the ablity to test, change and modify content to enhance search. Updating and watching the duplication of content is key in transforming your site from porrly ranked to highly ranked.
